Haha would you say that Rice is the "admission obsession" equivalent of putting the obsession of ALL the ivies together??

I'm not sure... I do know it is a HUGE DEAL in Texas though. I have met a lot of students from Texas, and they talk about how Rice is their dream school. There was an Explore Rice event for Houston area high school students only, and over 800 high school students from Houston alone showed up for it. Rice is a really awesome place though; it is just people are ignorant up north. If every top student across the country knew about the intellect of the students, the close-knit connection with professors, the quality of teaching, and the fun-loving nature of the students, Rice would definitely be as hard to get into as Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.

i agree if rice was more well known up north it would be impossible to get in.
im taking comfort in the fact that the super smart students at my school are applying to ives early, and not rice!

I'm assuming all you ED applicants have already submitted your application or are close to doing so. Good luck to y'all, and let me know if you have any questions about campus life along the way.

Man, it feels so great to finally get that damn Rice ED app in...I was getting kind of paranoid and worked up over this one application when i have like 9 more to go!
Anyways, good luck to everyone! I hope we all have the opportunity to one day see each other on Rice's campus!

The residential colleges (we don't call them dorms at Rice) with the more traditional "dorm" layout include my residential college (Brown), Jones, Sid Richardson, Duncan, McMurtry, and Hanszen. Keep in mind that if your son matriculates at Rice, he will be randomly placed in a residential college for the next 4 years... if he really hates it, he can transfer to another residential college the following year. However, Wiess has the nicest rooms on campus though.

"Dorms" is quicker to type than "residential colleges."
He did say the room itself was gorgeous.
