Owlmania

In the current issue of Rice Magazine (No. 4, 2009), President Leebron writes about his vast owl collection. I've had one for years (my alma mater shares the same mascot), but in recent times, my owl yen has intensified. I now have an owl box of matches, a tiny owl sculpture, an owl trivet, an owl watch, two stuffed owl toys (one from the Rice bookstore) just to name a few ...

It it true that there was once a big cage on campus which a trio of owls called home?
Where? When? Really?

Anybody else collecting owls?

I heard the live owls resided by Lovett College. I wish we still had live owls. Luckily, the Houston Zoo is close by, and has Rice-looking owls.

I love Rice, and am very grateful to the opportunities it has afforded my two kids - but I'm not actually a fan of the owl graphic and mascot. Different strokes for different folks!
