I'd work on improving that SAT score. You've been improving your GPA, and that's great, and I'm glad to see that you're taking so many AP courses. Good for you! =)

There are several courses you can take to help you improve your testing scores. Beyond those SAT scores, and taking note of the improvement in your GPA, I'd say it's definitely worth applying. Yup, it's a stretch, but you've got good extracurriculars and you're taking difficult courses.

Best of luck!

Hey this is off topic but what office do you hold in Key Club (I am president of mine and Key Club rocks). After posting a thread much like yours I have come to the conclusion that other students can not tell you what your chances are. You could have a higher GPA and SAT score and the admission officers might decide that you would not add much to the school. I think that your best bet is to find something unique about yourself and try to accent it. I mean thousands of people apply to Rice that are as qualified or more qualified than you are. Don't try to be a cookie cutout perfect student. I really want to get in as well and have just sent in my application but if I get rejected I know that I tried and I will just look at other schools. With your stats you can probably get into other really great schools. Oh and my stats are about the same except I have a higher GPA and lower SAT scores so our chances are about the same.

Thank you for both of your replies I have decided to retake the SATs because I am taking 2 AP math courses now and my guidance councelor wants me to get a 700 on the math section. I am the Secretary of our school's Key Club, I love it! Yea, I agree that this board cant tell me my chances but at the time of posting it I felt I had no chance but now my guidance councelor is encouraging me and your comments helped, I am learning it is definitly not to my advantage to be a cookie cutout student

If you can take the new SAT and get 2100+ (average of 700 on each section), and write some knockout essays, I'd say you have a good chance. Even without the SAT retake you still have a shot. Good luck and don't get discouraged!

Have you taken the ACT? Some people score much higher on that than on the SAT. When I took the SAT I scored in about the 73 percentile. When I took the ACT two months later I scored in the 90th percentile. If you take that and score anything above a 32 you should be just fine for getting into Rice. Good luck.
