Laptop For Engineering

I am trying to find a laptop, but I am unsure whether or not you need a certain laptop for Engineering at Rutgers NB. I believe they said you don't need anything specific, but I want to make sure as far as specs and programs go. I will probably get an HP or Dell, so I can build the laptop with stuff that will suit me.

You can get any old laptop. Any modelling you'll be doing won't be very resource intensive. You'll be using MATLAB and maybe some IDE's if you're gonna be programming in other languages. That's about it though. Get an expensive computer only if you wanna play games ;].

Thanks for the response. I just wanted to make sure since I will probably use this laptop for a long time. Thanks again.

I'm in my 4th year (gasp) at RU engineering and I am still using the laptop I bought before my freshman year. It is a Dell 700m. At the time, I thought that I should get a small laptop so that I could take it to class. Turns out, whenever I bring it to class, I end up just using the internet. Also, without tablet capabilities, it is near impossible to take math/science notes and keep up with lecture. That being said, you will need a computer to do homework. Maple and MATLAB are probably the only two programs that you absolutely need, and neither of them are going to drain the power of your laptop.

Long story short, get what you like...just try to keep it in good shape.
