sdsu dorms?

Hi there SAVED, I am transfering to SDSU this fall 2005 from a junior college. I am a 23 year old femal transfering with my boyfriend, both as Civil Engineering majors...PLEASE help me by providing me with some info. My father keeps nagging at me to live in the dorms. I really do not want to do so. I have the feeling I would end up with a bunch of bothersome freshmen feeling the fresh off the leash from their parents synrdrome. I am a serious student who really is not interested in partying and just want to get through school as quickly as possible (i have taken long enough as is). Any how is there any info you could provide to me that I could use to argue against my dads wish. please help me, i do not want to pay the ridiculous price of sharing a small room when I could rent an apt. THanks!!!

lol I don't know of any statistics, but it seems like you have a pretty good argument going. Definitely do not live in the dorms, it's basically all freshmen. What was your dads argument for you living in the dorms?

Chickity, I think you'll find that there are more non-freshmen in the "suites" dorm - I think it's Cuicicalli? You might want to check that out - might be a way to split the difference with your Dad - of course, I'm a Dad, so I'd be that way....

Sock, when did you get your dorm assignment? How did they notify you? Did they provide your roommate's e-mail address? I hope you have a wonderful year living in tenocha!!

If cuic and chap were your first and second choices, you should get into one of them. When did you send in your license agreement? I was reading about all the halls and it appears that chap is the only dorm that doesn't list access to any of the pools. Do you know anything about that? I am sure you will like having a double room. If you get a decent roommate, it can be a lot of fun sharing a dorm room. Good luck!

i sent in my licence thing on may 4, i dont know when it reached san diego, i live in the bay area. i hope i got chap; i already know i didnt get cuic because a cuic double is like the rarest, and my friend asked for a cuic double and sent it in really early and got a single. HOPEFULLY i got chap. i cant imagine sharing a shower with everyone on my floor!

Tenochca is a bit cleaner than Zura, but not as social, still a pretty cool place to meet people.

UC mom if i recall i didn't know about my room and board situation until late july. So don't worry about it yet.

Sock, my daughter also wants chappy. We drove down on May 2nd, so I hope that gives her a chance. Also, it is probably not one of the more popular dorms since it is so far away, so hopefully you also have a good chance of getting in there. I hear it is a very nice dorm and close to the rec center.

Saved, thanks for your encouragement! Do you know about the social life at chappy? Also, where do the kids that live there eat most of the time? Is University Towers dining hall close enough? Is the food ok?

Chappy has its own little "grill" type thing inside of its market. Athough its not nearly as eleborate as "the grill" (name of an eatery by all the other dorms). The food at University Towers I would stray away from, it's bad. I would recommend not getting the University Towers meal plan and sticking with the regular meal plans.

Saved, thanks for the info! Which meal plan do you recommend? My D is signed up for the "10 plan plus" Can she eat her 10 meals at any of the food places on campus or does she have to eat them in the Dining Rooms?

i would recommend the 16.50 a day plan, because EVERYONE I know had an excess of those dining hall meals, you have to use your meals at the dining hall over by ZURA/TENOCHCA. It gets old really quickly.

Plus the dining hall is rather far away from her and she'll probably just get dinner at the market and the food court over by the library most nights.

My son had the 10+ plan and he usually didn't eat at the dining hall. My understanding was that he could either eat in the dining hall or spend up to a designated sum at any of the restaurants in the food court area. The 10 meal plan gave him the option to use it in any two of the three dining periods per day (breakfast and/or lunch and/or dinner.) All but one of the restaurants in the food court area honored the meal plan. (I don't remember which one didn't.) If he didn't actually eat a meal during the period he went over to the convenience store and bought snack food with his meal allotment, using the designated value for that meal (dinner is a bigger alottment than lunch or breakfast). He used the "plus" for weekends.
He didn't go hungry, but he didn't get a "freshman 15", either.

Thanks for explaining that to me kluge. How did your son like SDSU in general? Is he staying in an apartment next year?
