Retake SAT just for CR

Hello,

I was wondering if retaking the SAT for the third time would be worth it just to increase my critical reading score. I got a 590 first time (recovering from a fever that week) then a 640 the second time. My superscore is a 2150 but I feel that I need at least an extra 30-40 points in CR to just be considered at some ivies.

I am also contemplating taking the Math 2 Subject Test again because I only got a 700 without review. Which test, if any, should I retake again?

Id retake it to try to get up to 700 or higher. Ivies are very hard to get into so you should have all your bases covered.

Like goldring2012 said, you should aim for a 700, or at least a 670 (though I might be saying that because my best single sitting SAT score included a 670 CR score).

You should definitely retake the Math 2 Subject Test as well. Quite a few people get 800s, and as everyone says, the Math 2 Subject Test is weighted so heavily that even a 750 wouldn't be that impressive.

640 is a little low for ivies, but I wouldn't judge everything on ivies. There are a lot of good school out there. You will find the right fit. If you are going to retake, make sure you take the time to practice and learn why you got the questions wrong that you got wrong in practice.

Thank you to those who replied. The ivies are definitely my "reach" schools but I also feel that a 640 isn't impressive for UMich and UVA.

I got into Penn with 640 math and 660 reading, and I am not a URM/legacy/athlete. Needless to say, other parts of your app are more important and having a 2150 is a great score. It is by no means amazing in "Ivy land," but if you can stand out otherwise, then it is in the right range. If you think you can improve and feel like sitting through another round of SAT, all the more power to you!
