UCSD GPA vs. SAT?????

satkid11satkid11 Posts: 74Registered User Junior Member
i was just wondering if anyone understood how the GPA vs. SAT score thing works... i have a 4.33 weighted GPA so what score would i have to get on the SAT based on my GPA? i'm slightly confused on how the scale thing works. I tried looking at UCSD's website, but i got even more confused.

thanks a bunch

UCSD gives you 4330 for your GPA. the cut off is around 7600. Aim for 8000+ though.

    GPA x 1000
    (New SAT + SATII + SATII) x 0.8
    33-39 A-G courses is worth 250pts
    40 A-G courses is worth 500pts
    ELC worth 300pts
    Educational Environment worth 300pts
    Parental Income < $60k worth 150pts
under federal TRIO low-income cutoff worth 300pts
Parents: Some college = 150 HS or less = 300
Leadership: 150pts for 2 minor roles, 300pts for a major role (President or VP of class, editor-in-chief, eagle scout, girl scout gold award)
Special talents, achievements, awards : 150 single, 300 multiple
    Comm. Server <200 is 150pts, >200 is 300
    AVID, EAOP given some points
    Single Parent household = 250pts
    working 20hrs+ week = 250pts
    Life altering event = 500pts
    Less severe event = 250pts

    hi, thanks for the replies...

Sympathy: what do you mean the cut off? if i don't make 7000 does that mean i can't get in?

Use the formula above and tryto achieve 8000+

Your GPA gives you 4330. If you got 3500/4000 SAt + 2 SAT2 you will have 7130 already. If you got EC, etc, you can add more points to your total...

UCSD mainly uses this formula to base upon who will get in and who will not although I am sure that certain people below 7.6k has gotten in as well.

    Hi Sympathy:
one more question though... what are the 33-39 A-G classes... just my normal classes at hs? i'm 99.9999% sure that i will have all the a-g classes when i send in my transcriptnext year...but here's where i'm confused: if i take 6 a-g classes a year, for all four years of hs, doesn't that give me only 24?... how can it be possible to get 33-39 or even 40? or did those numbers mean the grades we get in the classes.. like 4 pts for an A, 3 pts for a B etc.... sorry to bother you again but i'm kinda confused! =)

the A-G courses have to be UC approved classes
The 30-39 are the semesters, so if you have 6 classes per year that makes 24 total times 2 for each semester. SO technically you will have 48.

  • SympathySympathy Posts: 385Registered User Member
How good is your school.....if it is well beow par of the national average (test scores, etc), you will get the 300 points.
