is my 7th grade sat score good enough?

gettingready2017gettingready2017 Posts: 36Registered User Junior Member
Im in 7th grade and I want to get into an ivy league I was wondering if 570m 560cr and 530 wr is good (1660 total). Wr could have been like 560-570 but I forgot to answer 4 questions.
I also heard that people that end up going to princeton, cornell, yale, harvard, etc got like 2000's in 7th grade or like 30s on the act in 7th grade? is that true? is my score bad?
until which score do you think it can improve if I study? could it ever be 2200+?

also, like if you took it in 7th grade, what did you get?

Don't worry about it at all. You have 4-5 years to get your ideal score! Your score is far better than an average 7th grader, so don't sweat it.

And in reply to your second post, less than a 1500

yes but should I have gotten a 2000 is that harvard material?

They honestly don't care about your 7th grade SAT score. It's good to see what it's like and get a feel for what you're going to take in high school, but other than that, there's no real benefits. And getting a 2000 as a 7th grader would be ridiculous.

so can I still get into harvard?

Your 7th grade SAT score can't predict your acceptance to top schools. Other things factor into to it like your extra curricular activities, essay, volunteer work, etc. It's impossible to tell from just one score in your middle school years.

gettingready2017, just work on increasing your SAT score. Harvard will NOT reject you because of your seventh grade SAT scores. The scores from your high school career are taken into account in the admission process. When you take the SAT test that you plan on sending the results to the colleges that you apply to, make sure you score within the range of the average applicants of your desired colleges.

Remember, the SAT is not the only factor taken into account in college admissions, but it doesn't hurt to get a score shared among applicants to the college you are applying to.

    Good luck!

These 7th grade scores will NOT be used for your college applications! Many students take the SAT for various gifted programs, so rest assured that you are going to be able to take the SAT in junior year of High School and use those scores only.

Your scores are very close to my son's scores at beginning of 6th grade (for a program he was doing through Johns Hopkins). He went on to score a 228 on his PSAT in junior year of High School, and then scored a 2300 SAT (minimal prep). Your scores are great for a 7th grader! Please, do not worry about SAT scores for now. If you really, really want to compare your scores with other 7th grade averages (keep in mind this is from Duke's program for talented youth date which is similar to the Johns Hopkins CTY):

You are roughly within the 87th-97th percentile of gifted 7th graders :)

Scores before 10th grade are useless.

Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?

Chill out and enjoy life until en of sophomore year. Then return to this forum with questions about formal preparation. Nobody besides yourself and possibly a few summer programs really care about scores before 10th grade, and no, Ivy Leagues will not decide your fate based upon your 7th grade score (**** I only got a 1990?! It's not over the 2000 mark! Harvard will never accept me in 5 years!!!). I got somewhere in the 1700-1800 range in 8th grade when I took it literally for fun because I was curious about it, but since then my scores have shot up tremedously with practice and schoolwork/classes.

There are lots of middle school students taking the SAT's every year. It's required for several university based gifted programs. Yes, they are useless for applying to colleges, but certainly used often by Johns Hopkins CTY, Duke Center for Talented Youth, etc. for admissions. I'm assuming the OP has been invited by a program to apply for admission and so took the SAT for this purpose. And, the OP did very well for a 7th grader btw :)

@jkiwmom I think you missed the point of our replies. We never said his/her score was bad, but rather that he/she should not stress about it now. 1660 is indeed a good score for a 7th grader, but out of personal experience, I find this over obsession with SAT scores at such a relatively young age to be unnecessary. As mentioned before, a few summer program admissions (i.e. JH CTY, Duke Center for Talented Youth, etc.) do involve SAT scores, but a majority don't. In addition, the OP was stressing over the idea of whether a specific SAT score (his/hers in particular) was sufficient for Harvard and other Ivies, in which case we responded by telling him/her to relax because 7th grade score really are meaningless in that regard.

    Examples:
I also heard that people that end up going to princeton, cornell, yale, harvard, etc got like 2000's in 7th grade or like 30s on the act in 7th grade? is that true? is my score bad?
    and
so can I still get into harvard?

Your 7th grade score was better than my first 11th grade score...lol...
  • ShadowMistShadowMist Posts: 473Registered User Junior Member
^ I know. I was going to say... that's better than most of the kids in my grade (11th). I'm still waiting for my scores for my first time taking it, so I can't really compare it to myself.

However, that is an excellent score for a 7th grader. By 11th grade, it should be 2300+ if you don't slack off, which is good if you're looking to get into Harvard.
