How significant is the written portion of the ACT

I got a 35 composite score on the ACT but only an 8 on the essay, do you think that this is enough to warrant a retake, or is the written section not as important?

According to the admissions people at Purdue, they only care about the Combined score on that portion. I'd imagine with a 35, you crushed the English portion so you probably have a VERY high English/Writing score.
