an anxious mother needs help

Hello , I'm here for my son, I have no idea how to give him some suggestions, I hope someone here can help me some.

My son took the SAT in June, he got 2180 (maths 800, writing 790, reading 590), he has a high goal for his college, he doesnt think his first SAt is good enough, so he took SAT today again, he hoped he could improve his reading to 700, but he didnt feel good at it after test, he thought it would be around 650-670. So what I want to know is 1: as a student with English is second language is his SAT score good enough for EA for the U of Chicago and MIT, ED for Columbia U? 2: Will schools consider my son just has been studying here for one year (we are green card holder)? His GPA is 3.883 and got a two 5 of AP. 3: does he need to take SAT again on December 1st for his RA schools?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

For a student with English as a second language, 590 is a fine score. His prediction of 650 would likely be great if it is noted in applications that his first language is not English.

If UofC and Columbia just looked at those scores, then acceptance would be tough. However, your son does add diversity to the mix of the student body, being a green card holder, etc. And yes, the schools would take that into account. Thus, he may have a chance based on his essays showing his different background, or what it's like to move to US in HS with ESL, etc. Would he be the first generation attending college or from lower income or any other diversity that these schools might be looking for? If so, then he also may have a chance as well.

He does not need to retake the tests for his RD schools.

Is his current score good enough for his RA schools since most of his RA schools are among the top 30?

Those sound like fine scores to me, although I did wonder why the writing score was so much higher than the reading. Just make sure your son has some backup schools.
