To take the SAT II or not?

My son is a Junior, with strong scores on his ACT and SAT, 4.0 unweighted GPA with Honors and AP classes. The colleges he is considering most strongly (Emory and WUSTL) do not require the SAT II, but do state that they will consider them if they strengthen the application. We know that my son is generally a strong standardized test taker, so should he take them? If so, when? Is the end of Junior year too soon? (I guess I'd kind of like him to not be stressing over tests next fall.)

And if he should take them, in what areas? He is planning to major in biochemistry, minor in Spanish. He is taking AP Bio and AP Comp this year, but not taking AP Chem or AP Spanish until next year...

Thanks for your help.

What are his SAT/ACT scores? If he's a 34+/2200+ I don't think they're worth the trouble (he'll most likely get in to both schools anyway). If he's considering other elite schools, it wouldn't hurt to take Bio as it requires no additional studying. If he wants to take a second, he should consider Math 2, Math 1, World History, or US history.

Hmmm, he got a 5 on the AP US History exam last spring...wonder if he would remember enough to do well on the Subject area test this year?

He got a 33, with a 10 on Writing on the ACT mid-sophomore year and will re-take in Feb. He got a 2100 on the SAT as a freshman and most likely will take that again in the Spring too...
