| vc08: nope, no legacy... i know he worked hard on his essays and they were pretty creative, but not extraordinary or anything.. but otherwise, he had a reallly impressive high school record and a bunch of extracurriculars (3 sport 4-yr varsity athlete, student congress treasurer, bunch of honors stuff, volunteer work) |

| Yale is my first choice, but I'm not expecting to get in because my essay was complete crap. After that, it's a toss-up between Tufts and Dartmouth. I prefer smaller schools without the 600+ people classes that are present at state schools like UMich or U Arizona. |

| Honestly, the whole "big classes" thing is WAY over-hyped. at Michigan, only 5% of the classes have over 50 students. I believe at Dartmouth the number is only slightly lower. Nevertheless, Dartmouth and Tufts are great schools, so congrats! |

| Well, I was in the REALLY BIG LECTURE HALL at Michigan and the tour guide said it could fit 600 people....... I don't think Dartmouth has that. :P
Either way, it's more so guided at U of A, which has about 30,000 undergrads because we only have three colleges to serve the entire state (OK, so we have Devry too, but that doesn't count.) |

| I went to a campus day at UM, and someone said the biggest class they ever had was 200 people, for like Bio 101 or w/e. But they met in much smaller groups a few times a week. Some people don't like the idea nonetheless, so whatever fits you best, go for that!
And let us know how your remaining decisions turn out! |

| I know that you guys know that standardized test scores are not the only factor for acceptance into colleges, so do you have any advice for me on how to get into Columbia or Stanford? |

| Write a very original essay. Make sure it's on topic, but make it something they've never seen before. Some guy on the ND forum said he got in by doing an in-depth analysis of apples and oranges. And he had pretty avg scores for ND, applying Early Action. But not too many people write about the apples-oranges comparison! Have fun with it. If you're having fun, adcoms are too. and that is the important thing. Good luck! |

| Thanks for the advice. I'm not very experienced with this procedure, and I've always wondered if applying early decision will lower your chances of getting financial aid. |
