| UofRbound, your D will definitely be commended.
ceebee63, not all finalists receive a NM scholarship. Some will receive the NM-sponsored, some a corporate-sponsored, some a college-sponsored, and some will receive nothing at all. |

| Yes, our school in NY received the letters today. And the (national) Commended cutoff is exactly 200: " . . . selected from the 1.5 NMSQT program entrants with a selection score of 200 or above" is the language in the letter. |

| I'm just wondering, what do our choices for the colleges we pick mean? Like, is this what they would use when they say that they'll only give scholarships to those that pick their college as a first-choice school? |

| The exact wording on my son's letter is "Your Selection Index score on the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) places you among the highest-scoring 50000 students of some 1.5 million who entered the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program". There is no mention of the score 200. |

| OHHHHH you are all JUNIORS!! I get it. I was wondering when we (class of 08) get notified about Scholar status... which actually is pretty soon. So GreenDayFan, I don't have a long way to go! Yay. And since I already know where I'm going (Princeton), it doesn't actually matter that much about being a Scholar. I already know I'm at least a Finalist. |

| Right, bomgeedad - now that I have the actual letter from NMSC, rather than just the email from the guidance office, I see that it was S1's school that inserted the "with a selection score of 200 or above" language. |

| My son received his letter last Friday. He is in OH and the GC informed all 6 of them at the same time. His score was a 233. |

| Personally it is because I have a son who is a junior with a different set of interests and needs. I want to stay informed so we can help him make an informed decision. |
