Got my ACT results back, and the composite was a 32, with subscores:
English - 35
Math - 34
Science - 33

and reading...

umm...

How much weight do individual subscores have (like the reading one) in the application process in very selective schools, and should I retake?

definately retake if you can improve your reading score...
that really killed your composite score.

do section scores get reported? or just composite? do essay scores factor into composite

If you have your ACT score reported, the whole score is reported, but you know, if you take the test more than once, you get to choose which ACT score to send.

so how would it work for the schools that I directed to send ACT scores to for free, if I were to retake? If I were to score higher, would they care about the first set of scores, or would they take nothing else?

I think they would look at the higher score and ignore the lower score.
