SAT 2 US history vs APUSH scores

D made only a 660 on SAT2 US History, but a 5 on the APUSH. So is it better to have a 5 on the AP test with a mediocre SAT2 or a great SAT2 with a 4 on APUSH? Which score is more important to most colleges?

i got a 720 and a 5
I don't think colleges ever really see AP scores. I guess you could send in the 5 but the SAT II score is more accurate. A 5 could be a huge range of scores

I got a 3 on the AP US history exam, but that's probably because I self studied for it.
I took a practice SAT II test and I got a 720, but everything was fresh in my head when I took it.

thats probably because your daughter doesnt know much historical content and did decently on MC but did well on the writing portion of the AP exam and is a good writer.

Wow, hope, your daughter and I had the same scores. 660 and a 5... alas. And for anybody in NYS, a 99 on the regents (I'd cry if I got anything lower :P)

She is a good writer but her overall knowledge of historical content is actually quite good as well. That is why her SAT 2 score was so surprising. Her notes and flash cards made during the year were very detailed and classmates were always calling and emailing her for her notes! She did not study for the SAT 2 tests at all. Any recommendations on what she should review if she decides to retake in the fall, or should she even bother?

It really is a different test. The general knowledge helps, but practice with the SAT II helps a lot. The best SAT II review book I found was SAT II U.S History for Dummies. Great information, perfectly summarized, enjoyable. Whole 9 yards. I read the book about a week before the test and got a 750 and a 5 on the AP

read the Amsco book
read Barrons SAT US History, it will heavily solidify your score to near 800

maybe your daughter has hard time memorizing facts because thats what sat 2 us history basically is: how good you can memorize facts. or maybe also she is not good at cause/effect and determining the result of a law passed, etc.

Wow I didn't expect to see so much variation in people's scores. I got a 720 and a 4 - about what I expected for both and from what I can tell, they're essentially equivalent scores.

I got a 700 and a 5...our class was terrible, but a lot of it seemed like luck; on the SATII, I didn't know a lot of the authors and such, when they could have just as easily asked about different authors who I knew
