Math Level 1...what the hell?

So, I got a 780 Math Level 2, a 780 on the reasoning math (a year ago), but my math 1 scores have been:
710 -> 750 -> 730.

What the hell? Is the math 1 really that much harder than math 2/reasoning? I mean, its curve is better than reasoning yet I keep getting owned. Is the test just too hard?

What have your Math 1 scores been and what've your regular SAT/Math 2 scores been? I want to get an idea if I'm all alone or if this is normal?

Curve is hard - 1 mistake and points off. Problems by themselves aren't hard, it's just that they are 50 at the same time, and most of the people get stupid mistakes for carelessness

Are you talking about practice scores or actual test scores? If you, in fact, already have a 780 Math 2 SAT II score on an actual test, then it is pointless to take Math 1 -- colleges that require IIs require them to be in different subjects and thus your Math 2 score will be the only one that counts. Otherwise, as noted above, with Math 1 a few wrong answers send your score diving.

The scores I've mentioned are all real.

Are you taking real math subject tests? Or are you using material from test prep companies such as Princeton review and Barrons? Tests that are not Collegeboard property are often inaccurate, thus your scores don't do well in terms of gauging your proficiency in that subject area. Whether your situation is "normal" is hard to say- but from what i can tell, the general population of cc'ers find math 2 much easier. But really, a 750 in math 1 is a great score. Because the curve is much more harsh, a few mistakes can send your score tumbling, so this is why your seeing these inconsistencies. Would you have complained if you managed to get a couple more questions right and scored a 780? Keep in mind that you won't always be scoring perfects, because the curve isn't pretty. Your scores are pretty consistent, just review the questions your getting wrong and you'll be doing much much better no time.

Hmm, according to the CB scale, 770 is 46/50 raw score. But a 750 Reasoning is 52/54 raw. Is math 1 really that much harder? Only the last few problems seem *really* hard.

I would say that math 1 is composed from medium-hard problems of SAT I

Listen to drusba. With a 780 Math II, why are you continuing to take/worry about Math I?

@"metal spider in hell": your scores suggest that you're getting roughly the same # of questions wrong on both math subjects (for level 1, 730 is about 42/50, and for level 2, 780 is about 41 or 42/50).Maybe you're making the same # of careless mistakes, or not leaving enough time at the end. Either way, that 780 is a really nice score, so why worry?

But, like, I only missed one on the SAT Reasoning...way back when I wasn't even good at math. Why am I (relatively) sucking so hard now?
