question about sending test scores?

You know on the College Board website, when it asks you if you want to send your scores to colleges when you register to write the SAT?
I was just wondering if that's a good or bad idea. My boyfriend says they only look at good scores (for scholarship reasons..?) , but my parents don't want me to send my scores to any colleges in case I do poorly and re-take it.
Who's right?
Thanks =)
