Do we have to have submitted the common app to submit scores?
Or in the cases of schools like Carolina and MIT, must we have submitted their individual applications before we send scores, or do we only need to have created an account for these schools, or started the common app for that school?

You can submit scores before app and they start an app file with those; they will then match app to that file when it comes in.
