Can I give the SAT-2s in Jan ?

I registered for the NOV 7th SAT-1, and planned to give the SAT-2 in December. But due to passport problems, I might not be able to take the Nov SAT-1, forcing me to postpone it to Dec. In that event, can I give the SAT-2 subject tests next year in Jan ?

I intend to join college next year, and plan to apply to MIT and Ivy League Univs only.

Maybe you could take the SAT II in december anyway, and register for SAT I test date in January. Most colleges including Harvard would accept January SAT. You could also register for the ACT in December, so that you would have taken all tests by the application deadline (results arrive on the 28th).

You should visit each college website and read their policies concerning January SAT.

Is there a possibility to move the test location to the country where you might be? This is for a fee, of course.

The websites are very unclear about the timings of the exam.
When I asked my counselor, she told me that I must be finished with all tests by the end of this year.

Would a SAT-1 in Jan, put me at a severe disadvantage ?

If thats an independent question, then I guess you can, but why wouldn't you register for it in your own country in the first place ?

If thats a reply to my question, my problem is not exactly that. The thing is, that the passport needs to be presented at the centre before you are allowed to take the exam.
My passport might not be able to arrive by the 7th.

Most school websites are pretty clear, for example, MIT said that Jan SAT is ok for their regular decision. You just need to carefully find the section on their SAT requirements. If the school says it is ok to submit Jan SAT, it should not be a disadvantage.

sohamsri, sorry for a little misunderstanding, I interpreted the passport problem as you being an international student not being to able to come to the US in time for Nov test date. If it is an identification problem, surely there is another way to acquire another form of ID to use besides your passport. Does your school issue ID? How about your city or state? Call someone at your test center and ask them what other form of ID can be used in place of a passport.

Here's an excerpt from MIT's website :

"Q. By when must I take my exams?

A. If you are applying for Early Action, you must complete all of your tests by the November testing date (yes, these scores will reach us on time without rushing). If you are applying for Regular Action, complete your tests by the December testing date. We may accept January tests on a case-by-case basis.

Thats the whole problem !

I'll quote their(collegeboard) reply when I contacted them in this regard :

"Thank you for contacting The College Board.

We have received your e-mail regarding acceptable identification for admittance into the SAT test. We will be happy to assist you.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Students testing in India, Ghana, Nepal, Nigeria, and Pakistan, must present your current and valid passport containing your signature and a current, recognizable photo. No other form of ID will be accepted."

That blog is from year 2005, maybe there was not electronic score reporting back then. You should always try to find the latest and greatest information, specifically look at the link below.

MIT Admissions: Standardized Test Requirements

Excerpt from the link above:

Please allow plenty of time for your scores to arrive at MIT. It takes at least 4 to 6 weeks for us to receive SAT scores. We recommend that you list MIT as a school to receive your scores when you take the test. If you take the January test, you must list MIT as a school to receive your scores or we will not receive them in time for our review.

This, I believe, means that you need to assign MIT in the list of school for free reports before the score comes out. If you do, MIT will get the score almost the minute the score comes out and should be on time for consideration.

Thanks. Could you guide me to doing that ?

Also, would it be wiser to give the SAT-1 in Dec. and SAT-2 in Jan ? Or would it be better if its the other way round ?
I prefer the former(SAT-1 in Dec and SAT-2 in Jan), but am willing to compromise if required.

Does Ivy League have similar acceptance ? Would they too accept the scores of Jan ?

If you log in the College Board account in India the same way as in the US, after you have registered for the particular SAT test date, you need to go to your account and add MIT as one of 4 schools that you want for score report. Something like, My Organizer then My Test tab then look for My SAT Registrations link which should take you to all the tests you registered for in the past. Next to the test date in question, you need to click on a link to send your scores.

As for when to take SAT 1 or 2, if you already have taken SAT 1 previously, I would do SAT 2 in Dec and SAT 1 in Jan. Otherwise, it should not matter much at all which order. Also you might want to look into taking ACT also. I believe one ACT test can be used in place of both the SAT 1 and SAT 2.

Again, for other schools, you need to look up the information on their websites or call their admission office.

When I add a college in the "My colleges" list on collegeboard, does it mean those colleges will get those scores as soon as they are out ?

If yes, then what are "rush" scores ?

I just received my passport and will be appearing for Dec. SAT, and Jan SAT-IIs(in Physics, Chem and Maths). As I stated earlier, many univs. accept the Jan SAT scores, so should I rush the Jan scores to those univs ? And I don't need to rush the Dec. scores, right ?
