| Low SAT for Valedictorian?
I got a 2120 SAT superscore and I am ranked 1 / 500 in my class. My school is moderately competitive, we send 1-2 to HYPS every year and most go to the UCs.
I was talking to my counselor and she said, "That SAT score is low for being #1, you should be embarrassed"
Is it really that low for being #1?
From an adcoms perspective, what is more appealing:
Ranked # 1 and 2120 SAT
Ranked in top 5% (rank not specified) and 2200 SAT

I don't think it is that bad, I'm second in my class and I only got a 2150. It isn't all about SAT scores, so I think you should be fine

They ought to be embarrassed for having said that. How rude. You are more than just one number. Remember that and you will go far! It's a respectable score and they ought to be ashamed to have said that to a student. You obviously have worked very hard to rank 1 out of 500.
Good luck and let that one slide right by. =)

Yeah, that is rude if she said that. Just study and do better if you're not satisfied with your score which is already pretty good.

The valedictorian of my school last year made relatively the same SAT as you. And she was definitely smart and respected and got a great scholarship into an okay college.

""That SAT score is low for being #1, you should be embarrassed""
I highly doubt anyone would say that crap.. Maybe that's how you interpreted it.
You're doing fine.

Your GC is of low intelligence, to put it euphemistically.
Seriously. Rank sometimes doesn't correlate with SAT score, and that's just the way it is.

That score's about average for Ivy Leagues, so it's a perfectly respectable score and hardly embarrassing. There's no harm in trying to raise it with a little more study, though! It all depends on where you plan on applying and how much you think you can maximize your application.

I agree with d'smom. Your score is very solid. In comparison, the val at my school last year had an 1870.

I agree with the previous posts.
But to be honest, if you have the work ethic and intelligence to be 1/500, theres no reason you can't bump that SAT score up 100+ points.
You can put the time in, study and learn the test just like you can learn any AP material in school.
2120 + valedictorian are stats worthy of plenty of top schools, but if you're hoping to be one of the few students from ur school accepted into an ivy league, that SAT score might end up hurting ur chances.

Your counselor is rude to say that and in my opinion you should tell that is rude to say.
Your score is great but it will be a little hard to get in HYP

Our valedictorian last year had a math/CR score of 1440, and got into Princeton, Harvard, and Stanford. A standout application wouldn't help, though. Good luck!
