Im a rising junior in High school that needs to start studying for the SAT's. I took the PSAT last year for the 2nd time after taking it in 8th grade and my scroes were pretty Low.
CR: 490
MATH:510
Writing:470

I need to increse my total score to aroung the 2000's to insure me a spot into the colleges I want to got to. I was wondering what tips you guys have to increse my score by 600 points. The easiest subject to increse for me will be Math and writing. In those I mad simple mistakes and when I went back and went over most problems on line with ease I was able to ge them right. Any Books? any Tips on how to go about answering questions? Is the test really like a formula you have to learn to understand? Any topics I should study that are guarenteed to be on the test? Any help Is much needed? Thank You

Buy Collegeboard's blue book and use the resources in this forum's stickied thread.

I think a new one will be better because a used one might have marks written in the practice tests. You need to the BB for the practice tests, so it'll be useless if someone already wrote on them.

Here is a brief list of tips. Keep in mind that these worked for me and this list might not help everyone. But give it a shot.

CR:
- memorize vocab from Direct Hits volume 1 and 2, Princeton Review's Hit Parade, and Sparknotes' free lists.
- remember that ALL OF THE ANSWERS ARE SUPPORTED BY THE PASSAGE; don't let your personal opinions get in the way!
- instead of justifying why an answer is right, think about why is this answer wrong

Math:
- PRACTICE PROMBLEMS
- develop a list of typical SAT strategies, such as plugging in the answers

Writing:
- know your grammar!
- know the most common SAT writing errors and look for them every time
- essay: try to fill both pages, pick two different and detailed examples, vary sentence structure, and always connect samples to thesis
