Hey guys! I'm a senior who's getting ready to apply to college. My last SAT score turned out to be WAY lower than I expected:

1430/2400 (920/1600 M+CR)
CR: 480
M: 440
W: 510

Here are the colleges I want to apply to (In order):
-University of Maryland-College Park
-Penn State-University Park
-University of Delaware
-Temple University
-Ohio State

What is a safe score to aim for so that my chances of admission increase at each university? My GPA is 3.8 UW so I have strong grades, and tons of EC's. Also, is it true that Black test-takers have added weight to their scores? I'm just wondering.

From out of state, I think you'd probably need around 1300 or more, CR+M, for College Park.

Have you looked at test-optional colleges and universities? Many highly reputable institutions have a test-optional path to admission. (See a list here: SAT/ACT Optional 4-Year Universities | FairTest.) But it's late to start researching them, so if the idea of applying without having to submit SAT scores appeals to you, you should get cracking.

The overall score you are aiming for should be atleast around 2100. And yes, SAT scores differ on what race you belong to, but the difference is not too great to be concerned about. You must start practicing loads and concentrate on your target score now.

You should aim for a 2400.
To get into Maryland, you'll probably need about a 1300 M+CR to have a good chance.

Anyone could help me make my choice about which university to pick?
Andd what scholarships should I aim for ?
I'm a junior now maybe its a bit early to think of it right now.
But umm I wanna put some target infront of me to walk farther to itt.
Would be thankful for those who'd help ♥

Farouz, you're really asking in the wrong section of College Confidential, and you're also kind of hijacking FutureDoctor's thread.

I suggest you ask your question here: College Search & Selection - College Confidential. And start your own thread. But you'll get more help if you give people something to work with. Do you want a small college or a large university? Do you care what part of the country you'll be in? Do you think you know what you want to study? Is money no object, or are you looking for a college or university that will give you good need-based or merit-based aid? What kind of grades and test scores do you have (or expect to have)? But don't answer all of that here. Think about it a little, and then go post a new request for help, which includes this background information, in the College Search forum.

It would make sense to look at the whole profile. Economics and opportunities have more to do with test scores than race. A student with a lower score due to lack of opportunities but has demonstrated high potential in other ways may get that taken into consideration. Consider though, that if race is taken into consideration, you'll be in an applicant pool of highly qualified African American students, and the schools will choose among them. Your grades and scores need to be in the range of acceptance.

Your college list consists of large state schools that usually have limited resources for out of state students and have to admit their in state students first. You're at a disadvantage applying as an out of state student. Your state schools are your best bet, as well as private schools that are a match for you.

I agree with looking at some of the test optional schools. You don't have to give up your dream schools but adding some match schools and a mix of private/public could increase your chances of acceptance.
