<>Blue Book p. 412 #16<>

Let the operations $ and @ be defined for all real numbers a and b as follows
($ and @ are replacements for a triangle and box which i dont no how to do)

a $ b = a + 3b
a @ b = a + 4b
If 4 $ (5y) = (5y) @ 4, what is the value of y?

answer: 6/5 or 1.2

this is the only problem giving me a real hard time i dnt no y (diff = med)...i just dont no where to begin...

well
4 $ (5y)= 4 + 15y
(5y) @ 4= 5y + 16

make those equal to each other

10y= 12

y= 12/10

reduced is 6/5 and decimal value is 1.2
