Word count in essays

What is a good number of words to have on the SAT essay? Does it even matter as long as you fill up the two pages? If you write small, will they count the words to judge the length of your essay or will they only look at how much space the essay takes up?

They don't judge length, they judge quality. In general, long essays are good not because they're long, but because they're more in-depth. I usually write 4 paragraphs, and with my small to medium handwriting, it takes about 1 2/3 pages.

yeah.. filling both pages is usually the trend among high scorers.. i myself filled both the pages and got a 11.. however thats not to say that a short but well written essay wont get u a 12..

It would be much harder though.

    ^ I agree.

It's true! It's harder to score a 12 without having more supporting sentences=length.

I disagree with kelkyann, because research has proven that the SAT essay graders judge length as much as they judge content.

Just use Google to search for "SAT Essay Length".
My two cents: write BIG and fill up both pages with effervescent and insightful sentences relevant to the topic.

Hm, I never would have thought. I wonder if it's a conscious thing? But I bet filling up both pages can't hurt. I got a 10..I wonder if writing larger would have landed me a 11/12?
