Please score my essay out of 12 thanks!
Prompt:Are all important discoveries the result of focusing on one subject?
Essay:
While it is true that some great discoveries are the result of years of research and experimentation, not all important discoveries are the result of focusing on one subject. In the fields of science and exploration, great strides had been made, not through arduous work, but through accidents. Although it's true that discovery like Edison's light bulb came from many years of work, the discovery of the antibiotic penicillin and the American continent were both fortunate mistakes.

The pioneer antibiotic of penicilin was found in the lab, not as a result of focus, but an accidental contamination. The scientist who was working on the research of a certain bacteria accidentally left the petri dish uncovered one night and a fungus, penicilium, began to grow on the dish with bacteria. The next day, the researcher observed a clear ring around the contamination of the fungus, and concluded, after some tests, that the toxins from the fungus had the power to destroy bacteria. This life-saving advancement could not have been possible if not for a lucky mistake in the lab.

Another important, yet equally accidental discovery was Christopher Columbus' discovery of the Americas. On his way to find a new trade route to India in the late 1400's, Columbus sailed west from Spain, thinking that he will be able to circumnavigate the Earth and reach India from the eastern side. However, his erroneous assumption led him to the "New World", which he still believed to be India. Although at the time that he had been focusing on one subject, his objective was never to find a new continent, but a sea route to India. This crucial discovery was thus not a result of focus on one subject but a fortunate accident.

We cannot conclude that all discoveries resulted from patient research and focus simply by looking at the few fruits of intense research. As seen with penicillin and Columbus' exploration, all discoveries are not simply the result of focusing on one subject. While it is true that the possibility of discovery is increased by research, the real breakthroughs are often just a lucky mistake.

Sorry,I'm an ESLer so I may be unable to grade precisely. But I think the "pattern" of your essay and those of 11,12 essays are quite alike. And good transitions.
wish it help.

Your essay doesn't address the idea that both of your important discoveries were the result of focusing on one subject; the guy who discovered penicillin was focusing on research of a certain bacteria, and Columbus was focused on getting to India. So that's something you should have considered. You might want to pick other examples.
