Yes and Yes!

I found the online course invaluable in studying for the SAT; the explanations for the 8 BB tests and the 6 additional tests really give you a feel for WHAT the the College Board is looking for and WHY the correct choice is correct.

The program does grade your essays, but in a very rudimentary and primitive computerized manner, so don't trust what they say. For example, I wrote an essay which received a 5, then added the phrase "I am awesome" at the bottom, and it then became a 6.

rb9109, does the online course only grade essays to the practice test? Does this mean that there are only 14 authentic practice essays to write and get graded on? Or does the online course provide more?

I was just wondering, because writing essays has always been my weakest area, and i need practice.

Yeah, it only grades the 14 practice test essays. But the way grading works is by number of sentences, length of sentences, big words you use, and other mechanical stuff like that. So theoretically, I have a feeling you could type any essay in there and get it graded.

The SAT graders, by the way, grade essays in like 2 minutes, so there are some things to do to give a "good impression". Make a killer intro paragraph and sound insightful and intelligent; throw in a few big words but don't overdo it; have a dead-on thesis. You don't need 3 body paragraphs either; 2 are just fine. A rumor I have heard is that 12s are more easily given to those essays which completely fill the 2 pages. I got a 12 on my essay, and indeed I did fill up 2 pages completely.
