November 2012 SAT II Languages with Listening Discussion

emberjedemberjed Posts: 1,367Registered User Senior Member
My guess is that there won't be enough people taking any given language with listening to warrant a separate discussion for each, so I'll just lump them together.

I took Japanese today. A few weeks ago, I got a 690 on the practice test in the official College Board book that covers every SAT II. Relative to that, I'd say the reading passages were a little harder, the grammar was about the same, and the listening was easier.

Four people at my testing center forgot to bring CD players or didn't know they'd need them, and one person's CD player broke. Was anyone else's center this hectic? Did you yourself not have a working CD player?

Scheduled to take Japanese but I live in NYC... so two weeks to START studying.

The worst part is reading for me because I don't know any kanji. WHY COLLEGE BOARD JUST PUT FURIGANA.

@emberjed: "Oh Sandy baby someday when high-yi school is done
Somehow, someway, our two worlds will be one
In heaven, forever and ever we will be
Oh please say you'll stay oh Sandy"

"Students whose tests were postponed will be able to take the SAT on Nov. 17 or Dec. 15, based on when test facilities and staff members will be available, the College Board said. Students also have the option of transferring their registration to another national administration, free of charge."

I had never heard of such a policy, and SAT seems like too strict an organization to implement one. I'm sorry I didn't know about it, but you didn't have to be such a jerk about it.
  • CSIHSISCSIHSIS Posts: 3,413Registered User Senior Member
I don't think that was a jerk move at all.

I don't want the thread to become about this, so I'll leave it.

I was somewhat surprised to see a room full of testers at my test centre, and of a wide variety of languages..

I took Japanese too! Got a 780 on the blue book. The actual test was pretty easy; the reading section was very fun to do, what with the advertisements and all ^^
I got at least one question wrong though, because I thought 靴を着る and not はく.. the curve is -1 = 800 I think, so here's hoping I don't get anything else wrong!

Oh and there was one girl complaining about how she couldn't take multiple Listening tests in one sitting.

I thought that the reading section on the spanish test was really easy, but the listening was much harder than any of the practice cd's I had used.

Come to think about it, it's a little ridiculous that you can't take multiple Listening tests in one sitting. What if you really are multilingual but don't learn about Subject Tests until after October or so of your junior year?

for sat 2 chinese, anybody remember what the answer was to the last listening question? it was something like what are the passengers suppose to do next.
  • emberjedemberjed Posts: 1,367Registered User Senior Member
I'm not sure I need to do this, but... bump.
