Study Plan

I'm basically new to studying altogether--which is one of the reasons I need to do well on the Subject Tests (Bad grades, good ACT). I will be taking Math Level II, Literature, and a third (Chemistry, USH, or World History) on Oct. 14. Should I buy books and attempt to prepare now over the summer, or should I begin around the start of school (August 23ish)? Any suggestions about preparing for these tests would be greately appreciated.

Study now. Especially since you'll forget a lot of stuff over the summer, so it will be much harder to start studying in the fall.

I agree

Start now, build up a library of prep books, especially since you'll probably have stuff to do at the beginning of school.

Well, this year, I became one of those people who crams before the test, but that caused a -lot- of stress. You still have a little less than four months 'til the tests, which is plenty of time. I think if you're going to be teaching yourself any new material, now would be a good time to start, since you have plenty of time to practice during the summer, and you also have time to let it all sink in. (Plus, you're taking three tests.)

I don't suggest waiting until school starts because you'll likely be busier this year, and you'll have to adjust to new teachers and classes. Take advantage of the time while you can.
