Is it possible to self study for a subject test?

i was wondering if it would be possible for me to study for the bio test, without before actually taking the AP bio class. so do any of you think i can study from prep books and score a 700+ on the test with limited bio 1 H knowledge?
any success stories?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

innovative, how long do you think it'd take to study? I'm finishing a full year of bio this year, and was wondering to just study during the summer, and take the test in october. what do you think?

im sure you could get a 700+ right now because the information on the test is not to in depth. however, its pretty hard to get an 800 because there are always some random questions.
