If you live in the UK, why is your location California?

A #2 is a plain-old pencil. Can also be called and HB. If there is no number on the pencil, it's a #2. Any pencil with a company name/logo on it is a #2.

The only other type that is commonly available is a #3 (slightly harder) and those would have a "3" near the eraser. Softer pencils (#1) and much harder pencils are specialty items that would only be located with drafting or art materials.

If you have a choice between 2B and HB then choose 2B. Much better for filling in bubbles.

Oh... Does the grading machine require a certain type of graphite? Like... would it cause a malfunction in scoring if you didn't use a no. 2 pencil?
