haha...last minute bio Question!

Which of the following statements are true?

I. All chemical reactions of life occur in or in association with cells.
II. All cells carry genetic information in the form of DNA, which is passed from parents cell to daughter cell.
III. All cells contain a nucleus that coordinates the basic functions of the cell.

A. I only
B. III only
C. I and II only
D. II and III only
E. I, II, and III

The answer given is C.
Here's my argument: Red blood cells are cells, but they don't have a nucleus or any genetic information which makes II false. The answer should be A.

What do you all think?

I think when it says 'which is passed from parent cells to daughter cells,' they imply that they mean all reproductive cells?

Maybe it's a question that's worded badly =\

You are right with RBCs not having nuclei. However, they don't divide either (they just "die" after a while), so nothing is passed down to daughter cells since there is no mitosis. I totally understand what your saying, though. I mean, just try and not go into every single specific thing. Its tough, after taking AP Bio, I want to yell out "but _________________ [insert really specific species name here] has....., making the question incorrect!" but the SAT II is not as uber detail oriented (I mean there is detail but not as detailed as AP Bio).

Hope this helps! Best of luck!

Also, Red Blood Cells STILL have mitochondrial DNA...right?

Thanks ummy that really helps!

RBCs do not have mitochondia either, they produce ATP via fermentation

I love biology too!

Yay for bio lovers like us
Do we have to know much about classification, or just the general kingdom/phylum/class sequence (and the 5 main) ?
Oh, and is anyone else having plant issues? I know the parts, but can't seem to do more than the basics on the diagrams on the Barron's tests...

i agree

RBC and carotinized epithelial cells have NO genetic infomation.

this is wrong.

i don't know this lol

The third one is falso because prokaryotes don't have nuclei

Not B, D, or E because obviously bacteria don't have nuclei. II is pretty much true, so yeah C.
