Hello, I've recently joined CC and this is pretty cool talking with all the Ivy and UC bound students.
I just took the World History Single Subject Test and I scored a 770, but my mother was expecting an 800. I feel kinda bad and the test was pretty hard too I guessed like 6 in the last 4 minutes. Stupid proctor!
But is 770 a good score? Should I retake it? Would I be noticed by the colleges?
I would say don't take it, but that's coming from a kid who retook a 780 on the SAT II Math 2c to get an 800. I'm glad I got the score, but now that I look back, it wasn't a good decision and probably wasn't worth it. Anything above a 750 is an excellent score.
Colleges understand that there *are always* some deviations in scoring (ex. for the sat, it is 80,80,60 (not neces. in that order) for a total of 220 which seems like a lot but isn't). Furthermore, they typically don't publish average sat ii scores so it won't affect their rankings if they allow you in.
I got a 770 too ! Retaking it to get an 800 is so pointless. I don't know about you, but I'd rather be sleeping in on a Saturday morning than waking up at 7 AM and wasting $20 to take a 90 question test just to raise your score 30 points.
I think it would be kind of ridiculous to retake a test you got a 770 on, there's just really no point to it. Plus there is nothing guaranteeing that you'll do better this time, especially because a 770 is a very high score.
