OCTOBER SAT Subject Test: US History

I thought that the test was fairly easy with a few tough ones in there. I'm an idiot and forgot that the collegeboard deducts 1/4 of a point for incorrect answers. That being said, with a decent cure I think I still have a shot at an 800.

I had trouble with the question about women performing in circuses, however I said that it was a double standard. Any clarification on that one?

I'm not sure about the rules here as of yet, so if we're not allowed to post questions just let me know.

That being said, I have a few others ones if anyone wants to compare answers.

I selected microprocessor for the invention. I thought that the quote about purchasing land was Thomas Jefferson. African-American's did not migrate to the North because unions were open to them. The Puritans seperated from Church of England. Italian American's were the last to immigrate to the U.S. The cartoon with Uncle Sam and the King was anti-monopoly.

I'm sure I'll think of a few more later.

I thought the answer to the AA question was AA newspapers. And what was the question about the Puritans?

Yeah, for me it was a toss up between the two, but I didn't think that unions were open to black either. I know that the Puritans were interested in "Purifying" the Church of England, but I thought that the best answer in that case had to be separating, although I do not remember the other choices.

I might be mixing up two questions, but I am relatively certain that the Puritan question was about their intention to migrate to the New World.

If this was the one, I am pretty certain that the motivation was to establish a model community.

Regardless, I am pretty certain that the goal was not separate from the Anglican church simply based on the nature of the Puritan doctrine ("purify" the church).

I'm 99% sure the Puritan one was that the goal was to provide a model society for the rest of the world

Damn, I knew that they wanted to purify the church instead of separate from it, but I just couldn't resist.

Does anyone know if that quote was about Jefferson, the microprocessor was the latest invention, and the double standard held true for women? Thanks.

1 - The quote was almost definitely about Jefferson.

2 - The microprocessor was invented after the '60s.

3 - I think it was a double standard, but none of the answers seemed clearly correct.

Palm - Dangit, I got that one (about Puritans building a model society) wrong... I changed my answer to a wrong one

The quote above about the city on a hill was why I put model society. Think it's the right answer.

Edit: I didn't leave any blank in an attempt to logic my way through using historical trends on the 10 or so I was pretty unsure of.

Btw, what the hell was the answer to the question about economics in the 80's. I put the one about not cutting taxes to the poor, strictly based upon my knowledge of Reagan favoring the rich, was that right?

Yes, the one about the 80's was correct. "Elimination" in the answer should have guided you to that one, because as we all know - everyone in America is still taxed.

Right, I wasn't sure either, but I figured that he couldn't have possibly eliminated taxes on the poor all together.

There are a few that were questionable that I'm forgetting about.

Just a note: the things that I listed above were not the correct answers, they're just what I guessed. I was pretty confident about most, but don't count your chicken.
