November 2009 Math Level 1

So, how did you guys think the test was? I thought it was only moderately difficult. There were a few problems in the middle of the test that tripped me up but the last few were not that bad.

Some of them were a little tricky. Was the last one 2 + Sqrt 2?

That's what I got, and I'm almost positive that it is right.

What was the answer to the one about the right cylinder and the plane intersecting?

Rectangle or triangle? Because if the plane cuts in through the middle of the cylinder vertically won't it form a rectangle? Eeks.

Oh my god, 2+ rt2 was a total guess on my part. I can't believe I might get that correct.

Was the answer to the intersecting squares 1-x?

I thought it was triangle not rectangle. What was the with the two similar triangles that you had to solve for one of the sides?

Mmhm? Is that a yes?? 1-x??

Won't it form an ellipse if you cut it through the side?

Could it be point? I didn't pick that one, but I'm having my doubts now.

What about the geometry question that had various statements about why the two lines were parallel?

Yes, it was 1-x.

For the geometry one, it was the two angles that weren't complementary, I don't remember the letters though.

How do you think the curve is going to be?

It can be a point if it touches just one.
