Hi guys. I have a test on photosynthesis and respiration soon. Anyone have any tips for how to study? What kind of detail do we need to know for the AP? It seems like this topic is all memorization...Also, does anyone know where I can find practice questions online?

Guys, our class has only done chapters 1-5. O_o
We have a new teacher, and I don't think she has quite grasped the concept of, "try to finish as much of the book as you can before the test so you won't screw over your students."
She comes back from every conference inspired, and to try new ideas, yet nothing is really being done. Thank gosh I'm reading and studying on my own...

Just remember to keep reviewing past material every month or 2 weeks, and you won't have to study that much when the test comes around.

The Cliffs book is renowned for getting remarkable scores at my school.

Biology doesn't have to be about complete memorization; you have to understand it! Mickyleib, especially the photosynthesis and cell respiration unit, a complete understanding can make memorization minimal. Those topics are the epitome of that concept.

For example, if you know that photosynthesis and cellular respiration were essentially opposites, memorizing the equation would be easy, because one is simply the reverse of the other (generally). This principle of finding stuff like that applies to a lot of the material in AP Bio.

Now time for chapter 15 (The chromosomal basis of inheritance -__-)

I think that it is odd that many of your classes go by the book. We are just going by the
"big ideas." We have a test on Photosynthesis Monday. I am probably going to get a 90

Oh man... all of those posts just makes me feel bad. Haha...

Anyways, my teacher has a doctor's degree (def. smart) and he's I guess, an OK teacher.

First of all, I had no summer work for ANY of the ap classes I'm taking.

For bio, he basically just reads the book to you and we tend to do some random (relates to the section, but not really) labs.

For the past 2 days, he did mitosis in 45 mins and meiosis in 1 hour. We are now in Ch. 13 genetics. And compared to the other teacher who's teaching this, we are still a little behind.

He actually doesn't assign official homework, however, he passes out TONS of worksheets.

He doesn't require notes for homework, and he passes us outlines for each chapter.

Our "quizzes" (he calls them quizzes but they are like 60 questions) are usually 2-3 chapters.

We had a test on enzymes, cellular respiration, and photosynthesis last week.

We're so behind. We have less than a month til the end of the semester, and our test is next week for chapters 14 and 15. I don't think we're even a quarter of the way through the book. Almost every AP I'm taking this year has a new teacher teaching it, so I'm kinda screwed.

^@ musicislife73: Haha, has your class done the evolution unit yet? If it helps, we have not completed the evolution unit (while many other CC'ers have all completed this in their first quarter). Also, I think our teacher's taught for a while, so we probably aren't that behind. But I just have high standards :P
