| Just saw "Kingdom of Heaven", I liked it, son did not. He says they left out the biggest conflict. I really liked it, what does he know?

| ...and speaking of navy movies, there is always "Mutiny on the Bounty", "The Caine Mutiny", "A Few Good Men", "PT 109", "The Hunt for Red October", and of course "Mister Roberts" for some comic relief! |

| Our favorites:
Deerhunter
Patton
Great Escape
uf71
Enemy at the Gates (but Gladiator, Rob Roy and Patriot are the most awesome with their ideas of honor. Our boys pretended to be Rob Roy when they were little) |

| This is one cool thread. Thanks MOT! I'd forgotten about many of the movies listed here. Will stock up for firday nights for sure. I'm grinning to myself at the movies I'd mentioned. We've Scots blood in this household so Rob Roy is a fav. The real reason in mentioning them is that all mine have a little girl stuff in them along with the bang em up shoot em up. LOL
I can't believe you guys haven't said anything about Band of Brothers. I adore that one even though it wasn't in theaters so to speak. And michaelburt, I think your list of worse war movies was pegged perfectly. I've seen Glory about as much as I've seen Tora Tora Tora. Love the history about SC in Glory. |

| For Christmas, the torpeodo asked for:
-the Gladiator
-Top Gun
-Braveheart
-Return of the Titans
No doubt will add "annapolis" when it gets released- well, will have to see about that one!
(his cell "ringtone" is the dialogue by Al Pacino- don't know the name of the movie, but it the one about "fighting for those inches"- the "difference between 'winnin and 'losin, 'livin and dying is that you fight for that inch"---please feel free to help me out with where this is from...right now it is escaping me! ) Try waking up to that in the middle of the night when the phone goes off! ugg!!

| found it!
-Any Given Sunday
"You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. One half second too slow, too fast and you don't quite catch it. The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when add up all those inches, that's gonna make the ****ing difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying! "
Now that's what I call a wake up call! |

| MomofTwins....
I was going to add "We were Soldiers" but Aspen beat me to it.
So I will recommend "Stalag 17" with William Holden.
(PS... I absolutely loathe Stanley Kubrick films!) |

| PM,
How could I forget "Stalag 17"? It's one of my favorite all-time movies. If anyone hasn't seen it, hurry up. It's great.
Also, the John Ford movies like "My Darling Clementine" (not really military, but kinda close) or "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" are fabulous. |

| The best war movies are
1. Band of Brothers (what inspired me to go army). BEST MOVIE/ mini series EVER thank god someone agrees with me (Jamzmom)
2. Saving Private Ryan
3. Behind Enemy Lines
4. Caine Mutiny
5. Rambo 1 and 2 (this deff counts)
6. Great Escape
7. For We were Soldiers (once and young)
I was gonna put black hawk down but it was kinda a let down. Something...I just can't pinpoint it made me not like that movie. I'll remember in a few |

| "We Were Soldiers" is used at USNA for leadership training. For those of you who also like to read I highly recommend the book -- the story is riveting and the writing is very accessible. The author is the reporter/photographer character in the movie. |

| The Great Santini
Got to love the scene where Duvall and his Marines pretend to chow down on their own vomit, making the prissy Navy Captain's wife turn green. |

| "Mash" was a movie before it was a tv series. Yes, it counts and it was great. |
