Okay, so when you're suffering, long is long, but for the bystanders (bywatchers) it goes so fast.

You're right, your son (my son, too), well, they're not right.

Bill0510-

Well, if we all said it together, it would be plural, but then you'd have to take into account the dads. So the question would be, how would you say it with both parents rep'd?

"We aren't plebe moms anymore!" Congratulations to your weary, downtrodden, soon-to-be-plebes no more!

In one month and 4 days we will have newly minted Ensign! The Commissioning Week stuff is coming at a fast and furious pace and today we got our invitation for field seating for graduation (I think it's because hubby's an alumni parent). The sword and diploma frame have been ordered and the Ensign box is tucked safely away. You know that runaway train feeling? Well, I've got it! If you think plebe year went by quickly, just wait!

atrmom,
Congratulations on your son's outstanding performance--seems like just yesterday that he had summer seminar detail! We didn't order the ring box because I thought she could put her ring in the ensign box. I'm so anxious to see the ring --one carat diamond in the center with diamond cluster and satin finish. What were the sword options? Are German-made swords available?

usna09mom,
Thank-you! We're very proud of our boy! It was the same for us, we knew we were going to be getting the Ensign box and it's beautiful. We got the glossy finish with the USNA Seal on top. The inside is blue velvet with a removal tray (the tray holds smaller items like rings and cuff links) and space underneath for shoulder boards etc.

Andrew wanted the Spanish sword so we had to order that from the Mid Store, but they do sell German-made swords and I know people who ordered those from an on-line web site. Make sure your Mid goes down and gets measured no matter which way you're planning to purchase.

The other thing we're giving him as part of his graduation present (along with the sword and box) is a diploma/commissioning frame.

Ironically, after 4 years by the Bay, he's finally met a girl he really likes...talk about bad timing. She's a senior at a college in Baltimore and I cringe to think of what the cell phone bills will be like if they continue to see each other once he heads down to Pensacola!! Ouch!

atrmom-

Congrats to you and your son! Awesome! What is his assignment?

The day before I-Day, the boy was in the mid store salivating over the swords. It was like taking him to the toy store when he was little.

I'm going to have to pick your brain when his Firstie year is at an end.

He's going Navy Pilot and will be heading down to Pensacola for API on June 27th. That means he'll only have his 30 days basket leave off, but he's ready to get going with his "real life".

Andrew's sword is going to get good use, righ off the bat since he's got FIVE weddings to go do before he heads off to Flight school.

Hi Moms!

Hey, atrmom, we received the diploma frame the other day and I was blown away at the size! I think that will probably stay here for a while! ;-)

We actually had our son go down and pick out the sword, and we are glad we did since he picked one we wouldn't have. He is so happy with it! We also had him get the ensign box, since we thought we knew what he would want, but didn't know for sure. He picked the one we would have gotten.

Yep, this firstie thing is complicated! Our son has weddings this summer as well, with many here in Alaska or Washington, so he chose Sept for his report date to Pensacola. ATR mom, does your son have to stay in the BOQ in Pensacola?

Anyway, I already have my report cards started for my students, my bulletin boards are starting to come down, and my classroom stuff is getting packed up- our last day for students is May 16 and I am not hanging around to do that stuff after the students leave! My husband and I are getting on a plane on May 17th and no looking back! ;-)

OMG-it is less than a month until we leave! Yikes!

Everyone, the time really goes quickly! Enjoy the ride!

I'm still back at the first day of pre-school. I was crying, yelling at hub to turn the car around so I could go back and get my baby.

He loved it. Traitor child!

Our son picked the spanish sword (we would have probably gotten the german)
First wanted matte Ensign box but changed his mind and we went with the glossy (much better choice)
Those frames are pretty big! Still, you should see my dad's diploma from USNA 52..it's huge and a real work of art.

On reporting in to Pensacola, Andrew will find out whether or not he has to stay in the Q. From what he's heard, it's usually full of non-students who work on the base but they aren't allowed to sign a lease off base until they get the official word once they report.
