Does anyone remember when those generally come out? I was away all last summer and thus have no idea when I actually got an email about it. June? July?
Thanks
Hi!
Last year it was 6/22..we got one letter informing us both about dean's list and fgs. However, when Pres Christ came to Senate she said that fgs as a designation was being eliminated and the Dean's list was getting more selective. Not sure why
The code for the Dean and Faculty says the Dean's List is made up of students with a GPA of 3.3333 or higher. Is this going to be changed, do you know?
I actually do know that one. They are changing to Dean's list to top 25% of class (so GPA would change, IIRC, Provost Shuster said 3.7 would do it normally), but that is only affecting class of 2016 and younger, once again, IIRC
Are these based on our overall gpa or the gpa for that specific year (the two semesters)? Typically, what would be the gpa cutoff for first group scholars?
vanilla92 - They're based on your GPA for the past school year. I remember reading that the cutoff for First Group Scholars is the top 10% of each class. I'm not sure what the GPA for that would be though.
According to a faculty action sheet that I found on Smith's website, the First Group Scholars have been eliminated and the criteria for Dean's List has been revised. But this sheet does not say how the criteria has changed.
I got my letter today. It said that Dean's List is a GPA of 3.33 or above, and I also made First Group Scholars but they didn't specify what the cutoff was for that.
I'm class of 2015 by the way so they must not have eliminated First Group Scholars for us.
First group scholar roughly correlates to the top 10% of the class, but it is not calculated that way. If you have 28 credits of A/A- and at least 32 graded credits for the year, you are a first group scholar. Also, I am pretty sure you cannot have any grades below B or B-.
