I really did not initially like Smith, although it was one of the few schools I applied. Now, however, I am having a hard time deciding between it and Bucknell (or William and Mary - if I get accepted...). I am continually growing fonder of Smith... |

My d. is a double major in music and Italian studies. |

| Accepted with Stride.
I initially applied to Smith because it was there on the CommonApp and it was free. Never gave much thought to it until I met my interviewer. We talked for almost 2 hours and it was one of the best interviews I've ever had. Now, Smith is on my short list. =)
stats: low 700s for all (i'm not a very good test taker)
GPA: 3.85+ UW 4.5 W
recs: very good. a lot of "best in career"
Anti-hook: Asian girl |

| Congratulations to all who were accepted. I was at a local tea for Accepted Students yesterday, some of whom are definitely coming to Smith (including a couple of Ada's!) and some who are really torn.
I've got to say, skimming the profiles of those who were waitlisted or rejected, this looks as if it was a very tough year. |

| Congratulations to all of you!
But every year I read these and wonder if there will be someone who doesn't laugh or dismiss the 'gender' question. |

| Minor6th -- You can't double major and minor. You can major, double major, major and minor, OR major and get a five college certificate, but you can't do any combo of those options officially.
You can always double major and then fulfill the requirements for a minor of your choice, but you'll only be credited as double majoring, and you won't be able to get a minor advisor or any such recognition.
So you can double in music and neuro and do an unofficial minor in marine bio, or major in neuro and minor in marine bio, or double major in any of the disciplines, but you cant officially be recognized for doing all three.
Also, trying to double in two non-related subjects will be hard enough without the unofficial minor, just fyi. |

| Yeppers. Smith offers too many interesting courses which require great self-discipline to ignore. D has a double major and probably would have worked in an unofficial minor but I think she's going to be the equivalent of a course or two short, depending on how you view the fact that they gave her a waiver for one of the pre-req courses. And if you're satisfying Latin Honors requirements, that eats into the number of courses available for majors/minor too.[/quote] |
