Is SMU a big party school?

Hi! I recently became interested in SMU, and just from looking around the internet, it seems that I would really like it. The one thing that gets me nervous though is it's reputation for being a big party school.

Will I not fit in if I'm not real into parties?

Also, while I'm at it, will you chance me?

Gender: Female
Race: Caucasian
State: Florida
School: Large Public
GPA: Unweighted 3.3 (I know, it's low...), Weighted 3.9
SAT: 1890
ACT: 29 Comp
Class Rank: Top 33%
APs: 13 (counting senior year)
ECs:
Vice President of Latin Club (11)
President of Latin Club (12)
Cross-Country (9, 10, 11, 12)
Track (9, 10, 11, 12)
Captain of Cross-Country (12)
Captain of Track (12)

Thanks!

I don't know what it is like now, but it is a very social school, back in my day. It sounds like it is getting very hard to get into these days, so it might be attracting a different type of student.

I would recommend going there and checking it out and see if you like it. Yale and Harvard had wealthy, party school reputations years ago, too.

Hi 21NFK94! I'm a current student at SMU and I know I was concerned by that aspect of the reputation that SMU has along with the perception that it's "snobby." I will tell you after having been here for three years that the people here are so fun, welcoming, and kind. I seriously have made the best friends here! That said you can get involved in whatever social scene you would like to, but many people choose not to get involved in a party scene! The great thing about being in a big city is that there are so many other things that you can jump into if you would like to! Hope that helps and feel free to pm me with any other questions you may have.

I'm not sure how the party scene is beneath the surface, but SMU definitely has a terribly reputation right now. My aunt and uncle, who live right down the street from the campus, sort of frowned when I said I just toured.

Cornelliot, why does it have a bad reputation?
