I'll do mechanical or electrical engineering. I'm leaning towards a portable laptop (13" or 14") under $600. I'll use it mostly for chatting, surfing, and running MS Office, since I can do technical computing in the engineering labs.

However, are there times when having AutoCAD on your own PC really helps? If yes, is having good enough graphics for engineering modeling compatible with my above specifications?

By the way, I won't game on my laptop.
