| Stanford vs Johns Hopkins
Hello!
I am an international student studying in Singapore, applying for college later this year. I have my mind set on doing biomedical research in the future.
I know that Hopkins is a fantastic place for bio research, but I really love the diversity and vibrancy in Stanford as well.
Which one do you guys think is better/more suitable for me?
Anyone has to make choices between these two unis as well?
THANKS A LOT!

Stanford is in a tier above JH in almost all regards. Stanford is ranked number 1 in the biological sciences. However both schools are fantastic, but Stanford is the way to go.

I was accepted by both this year and I picked Stanford. It was partly because I was offered better financial aid from Stanford, partly because Stanford is ranked higher in engineering and I just thought that I will "fit" better at Stanford. If I were you, I'd simply apply to both because getting into Stanford or JHU is no guarantee. If you get into both you can worry about choosing between them later on.
(Btw I'm international as well)

I've heard the undergrad life at Stanford is great.
Maybe you should pick Stanford and go to JHU for grad school/research?
Both are very good schools though!
Good luck.

OP- Have you considered Duke as well? They seem to have a good biomed program, if I recall correctly. As does Rice I think (and if you seem to like the Stanford atmosphere, I've heard it is very similar to Rice).

Thank you so much!
I really want to go to Stanford for undergrad too!
But it all depends whether I can get in or not. Now I'm thinking if i can prepare all my applications well in time, i might apply for SCEA. But I also won't rush to apply that just for a higher chance.
Thanks so much for your advice!

Oh, is it? I have not checked that out yet. I think it's time to do more research and give myself more options. Thank you so much for the information!

In terms of research, Hopkins can't be beat. The hospital and medical institute is less than 15 minutes from campus and the school runs a free shuttle every 15 to 30 minutes. If you're looking to major in BME, which my freshman year was rated number 1 or 2, then Hopkins place for you. You would probably have more fun at Stanford, which is one of the reasons that Hopkins is rated lower. Most of the college rankings base their Alumni satisfaction on the percentage of Alumni that donate, which is one area that Hopkins is definitely lacking. If you were to exclude that factor, Hopkins ranks in the top three. But again, academically Hopkins is extremely hard and if you don't find the right group of friends you will struggle socially.

| I think it's safe to say that unless you're truly AMAZING and feeling good about your chances at HYPS that you do NOT have a higher chance SCEA than RD.
