did you go to admit weekend, skyraptor? because at the "picnic with the adcoms" activity, everyone got the opportunity to meet their adcom face to face. so, naturally, we all asked him why we got in when we got the opportunity! : ) So that was really cool. But he also was able to answer a lot of questions we all had about the admissions process and what he likes and doesn't like to see.
^no, i didn't b/c at that time i was still on stanford's wait-list (but i wish i COULD have gone. my friend who went said he had a lot of fun.
but the stanford representative for my region DID come to visit my school this june and it was really cool to meet him (he was amazingly cool and laid-back and friendly)
InvisibleMan023, to answer your original question, looking back, i'd have to say my essays were the strongest aspect of my application (my grades were pretty good, but my test scores and extracurriculars were fairly mediocre).
