cardinal care question.

From the Vaden website:

"The premium for Cardinal Care for the 2008 - 2009 academic year is $756 per quarter. The premium for the 2009 - 2010 academic year is $800 per quarter. Premiums will be included on your quarterly University bill. There is no option to change the coverage period or prorate the premium. See also Coverage Options."

If the insurance cost ($3200/yr) is included in the university bill, are they part of the student or parent contribution? If it's part of the student contribution, does that mean outside scholarships can help offset the costs?

Not totally positive on this one but I'm pretty sure they don't divide student and parent into who's paying for what. They just calculate the total cost of absolutely everything, subtract financial aid, and split it somehow between parents and students. Not sure how it would work with specific scholarships, but since it'll just be part of your overall university bill, they shouldn't know the difference between cardinal care and tuition.

I think veggie delight got it about right. If you look at your financial aid sheet, insurance is included on it. So basically, just have your parents pay their contribution, you pay yours and let any outside scholarships and financial aid cover the rest and the university will organize how the money is split up into the insurance, tuition, room and board etc.

Note that if you already have insurance coverage, you can opt out of the Cardinal Care insurance. It will appear on your bill, but will also be credited. Be sure to opt out before the deadline(used to be before the first invoice was issued....may be Sept now.)
