Burbank House in Stern!

Hey Baten, nice housing assignment by the way I'm not sure where you stayed during AW, but I stayed in Casa Zapata (which was awesome all around), and they had renovated bathrooms. The shower stalls were fine for me; better than other colleges I have visited. Each of the stalls has a small changing room (with a folding bench and several hooks) that is separated from the shower by a curtain; very convenient. There were hypersensitive, automatic flushing toilets. Individual storage cubicles for toiletries near the bathroom door. Uh... sinks and stuff? Anyway, the bathrooms are better than decent once renovated.

I never got to see an older bathroom at Stanford, so I have nothing to compare it against unfortunately.

okay. thank god. (nice house assignment for you too!) when i stayed, i was at rinc. and the showers were separated by curtains. there weren't any stalls. the rest was standard toilets (not automatic), cubicles and sinks. but the lack of real privacy for a shower bothered me. A LOT.

i know how you feel, baten, showers were one of my major concerns as well. I was praying for a house with renovated bathrooms.

None of you guys have anything to worry about. I remember I was terrified of the fact that I would have to use communal showers (no divider's, four showerheads) in a 155 year old building when I left for boarding school - actually I wasn't aware of this but naturally learned this vital piece of information my first day in the dorms. But by the time they got around to renovating the bathrooms, putting in dividers and curtains, I actually became annoyed by the invasion of my space. I had grown to love the luxury of using 2-4 showerheads when I woke up at 5 each morning.

So you see, whatever you get, you'll learn to love. Unless it is a tarantula that kills you. Then you will be dead. And you won't be able to love the tarantula. Because you'll be dead.

uh dude frosoco is one of the most popular housing options; that's why they have an additional section for it. why would it be bad?

Yes asian75 seems to be giving a lot of unhelpful advice. Actually, I won't go so far as to call it advice... just unhelpful comments.

I have, however, heard from a friend of mine who's a current Stanford student that it's far from "everything." I dunno what that everything is... but apparently around campus it's known as FroSoFar or something like that? :S I'm pretty sure the dorms themselves aren't going to be that much better or worse than the others though... As runeknightx said, if it's that bad why would you have to write an extra essay for it? There must be some reason that people want to live there so much.

That aside, I'm pretty excited about my assignment. Apparently Wilbur has one of the best dining halls on campus And I looked at Soto's website and 2 years ago there was a Harry Potter theme for NSO. I know that it's probably not gonna be Harry Potter related this year but I just thought that was cool
