Summer Storage

My D is a freshman at Stanford this year. (She's LOVING IT!!). As a parent I'm starting to think about her summer break and what we'll do with all of her "stuff" over the summer. We live in the midwest. We drove out with all of her belongings in September but do not anticipate doing so when school gets out this summer. We'll be in California for a conference in May and will try to bring as much home with us as we can then but she seems to have accumulated more than we took out in September! Does anyone have any experience with CollegeBoxes.xom or any other company that provides storage over the summer? I'd appreciate any and all thoughts! Thanks.

Our D is a junior and has not needed summer storage since we are a two hour drive. From my observations at move out time, there are pod storage companies present on campus by the dorms such as Uhaul etc. The only negative I've heard from her about the pods is to make sure they are packed tight as stuff gets shifted. The other option I've heard her talk about is going in on a storage locker with others, using a Zipcar to transport stuff to the unit.

Midwest Pop, CollegeBoxes does a good job with summer storage in my experience. It's all handled online. You register on the website, and they deliver the number of boxes you need about a week before the day you select to have them come get your stuff. For big things that don't fit easily in boxes, they tag them and keep them with your boxes. I think it's more cost-effective to store most things on campus than shipping them back and forth. Then when you get back to campus in the fall, they bring all your stuff to wherever you're living then on a pre-determined date.

The pricing is right on the site. It might seem expensive, but I think it's less than it would cost to ship these big boxes full of stuff back and forth, plus it is very convenient when you're extremely busy at the end of the quarter (and at the beginning of the next one).
