I was rejected. Sorry to fellow rejectees who wanted to get in.

Anyone else read the part about "the response to our initial offers of admission was higher than we expected"?

I thought, wow, that's obviously a lie... do they think we don't communicate? Stanford adcom already said that the yield rate was lower than expected, but they still like to tell us that it was actually higher to make us feel better...

I'm off to Caltech, then! Part of me is really glad I didn't have to give up Caltech.

I was reading up on the waitlisting situation, and I stumbled across this article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/09/ed...p=4&sq=&st=nyt

Here is the section on Stanford's Waitlist:
Quote:
“We’re over target right now, so we’re in good shape,” said Rick Shaw, the Stanford dean of admissions. “But I’m keeping a small group on the wait list, because I think there’ll be some impact of wait-list activity at other schools.”
Best of luck to everyone!

To those that were rejected...remember: somehow, college usually works itself out, regardless of where you end up.

The article also mentions that:

Princeton is taking 90, Penn is taking 90, Harvard 150-175, and Yale 45 - so we still have hope! the wait lists have been active as of now, so hopefully a bunch of kids leave stanford for the ivies!
