| Do any of you feel awkward wearing a Stanford sweatshirt?
Do any of you feel awkward wearing a Stanford sweatshirt? I've just been accepted to Stanford and I am proud of it but I feel as though if I wear my Stanford sweatshirt to school, my classmates will feel as though I'm showing off. If I was to attend a UC school, however, I would not feet strange wearing my sweatshirt. A lot of the people in my school who have been accepted to UCLA wear their UCLA sweatshirts. I wish I could wear my Stanford sweatshirt at school because its the warmest article of clothing I have! |

| Sweetie - Wear your sweatshirt with pride. You deserve it. You worked for it.
You earned it. Heck my son is at UCSB and while that is not even an Ivy college I am so proud of what he has accomplished.( I wear both my t-shirt and sweatshirt with so much pride.) Not to show off, but to say Oh how proud I am of him. You should have that much pride and more in yourself!
You are not showing off. What a wonderful person, and scholar you must be.

| I would rock that sweater to eat, sleep and work if I were you. In fact, I would shower with it if possible. Of course at Stanford that shower might only last a few minutes given their water policy haha. Be proud and kiss the tree when you get there. | |

| Funny about the pride vs humility issue about wearing a sweatshirt!
My son toured Stanford for the first time with his classmates on a choir tour to SFO and Stanford in early April, which was very cool since the trip had been planned for a year, and he had just received his acceptance...cool timing.
Anyway, I had given him $ to get a Stanford sweatshirt while there...he didn't end up getting one, yet several classmates did! I ordered him one online and he's worn it a few times. Also doesn't feel like "bragging". I ordered myself 2...1 that says Stanford Mom. I was told by both H and S to only wear it at home and not in public, because that would be "bragging" and or "cheesy". Ah well, maybe I can wear it at orientation!

| This concern is akin to Harvard students saying that they "go to college in Boston"- it's paradoxically kind of arrogant to assume that everyone you encounter will so overwhelmed/floored that they can't handle it. | |

| My D wore her Stanford sweater to school and was teased about "showing off..." not in a mean way, still, made her feel bad about wearing it; however, when a boy who is going to Cornell wore his sweatshirt, nobody said a thing to him... | |

| My S wore his sweatshirt to HS and didn't get any comments. Most people probably didn't even notice. No one from his school has ever gone to Stanford, or any Ivy for that matter. There have been a few that went to top 10-20 schools, but not many kids reach that high.
An uncle of his sent him Cal Berkeley sweats for Christmas last year, and he wears them, too. For him, it's just not a big deal. | |

I actually brought my sweatshirt online the moment after I got my acceptance email in Dec. However, because my acceptance has become such a big deal in school among the teachers/administration, I can't bring myself to wear it to school. I'm really bummed because i really love it, but i would feel like i'm showing off...
DAD2, I totally get your point, but I am already known as the ''stanford girl'' in my school so... =_= I'm fine wearing it anywhere else though!
i plan on wearing to shreds when i get there!! :] | |

| I sorta do. Underclassmen sometimes ask me..."Oh, you're going to Stanford? You must really smart, what's your GPA/SAT score?" I always consider that awkward because I really don't like talking about stuff like that to people I don't know well. | |

| It probably depends where you live. I don't think it would get much of a reaction here in NC. Duke is way common so it would not get much reaction. If it just makes you feel self-concscious, just skip it at school. You sure won't stick out at Stanford. | |
