OFFICIAL Stanford University RD Decisions - Class of 2013

OK. The mods and I have decided to relaunch the thread, because we now have a NEW working template. Special thanks to geckolord for his fantastic job of manipulating computer code! (You're truly amazing at it )

Here's the template, and remember to post stats:

Decision: Accepted

Please, please, please refrain from discussing or whining about waiting for or recieving your admissions decisions!!! It wastes specious space, and it makes finding the decisions on this thread tedious and difficult. Any posts that are not relevant to Stanford's decisions (aka whether Stanford accepts/rejects/waitlists you) will be subject to deletion.

If you need to spill, do so here: The OFFICIAL Stanford RD Decisions "Discussion" Thread - Class of 2013

Note to mods: Please sticky this thread to the top of the Stanford board. Muchas gracias!

Extra notes

The only people who are allowed to post on this thread are early approved people, like nglosh314.

And as you may have realized, this is special vanishing computer code that allows you to post stats without removing the annoying spaces in between the brackets.

Decision: Accepted

Objective:
 • SAT I (breakdown): didn't take
 • ACT: 35 (36 math and english, 35 science, 33 reading, 11 writing)
 • SAT II: 800-math, 800-chem II, 780-US History
 • Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.7
 • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): top 5% (?-school doesn't rank)
 • AP (place score in parenthesis): 5s on Chem, Calc BC, English Language, US History
 • IB (place score in parenthesis):
 • Senior Year Course Load: AP Bio, Physics C, econ, english literature, MV Calc/Linear Algebra
 • Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.):
Subjective:
 • Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): varsity golf, science olympiad, math tutor (in school + private), scholastic bowl, radio host
 • Job/Work Experience: tutor, ebay seller
 • Volunteer/Community service: Volunteer golf coach during the summer
 • Summer Activities: lots of golf, one engineering program at UofT
 • Essays: dece, since I applied early (deferred) they def. could have been better
 • Teacher Recommendation: never read, I assume solid
 • Counselor Rec: she has like 200 students to write for, so probably ultra-generic
 • Additional Rec: none
 • Interview: none
Other
 • State (if domestic applicant): Illinois
 • Country (if international applicant): USA
 • School Type: very large, competitive public (20-30 to very top schools each year)
 • Ethnicity: white
 • Gender: male
 • Income Bracket: high
 • Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): legacy
Reflection
 • Strengths: legacy, test scores, athletic prowess
 • Weaknesses: grades, awards
 • Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I won't lie, the fact that my dad went to Stanford def. got me in (although he never donated much). I think the fact that I'm going into engineering and have straight As in all my school's top math and science classes helped, too. Also, my Why Stanford essay was basically a play off the "day in the life" theme. It demonstrated just how much I knew about the school and how much I wanted to go there.
General Comments: WOW. OMG. WOW. Complete shock. I lost almost all hope after being deferred SCEA, and I was really down today after rejection at Princeton and waitlist at Cornell (moreso Cornell, I thought I was almost a shoo-in). I saw the email and was shocked. Still can't fully believe my acceptance- my grades were by no means good.

Dude, being waitlisted kind of sucks but is kinda awesome at the same time..haha I don't feel bad about being waitlisted and I've got my eyes on Duke [which was probably my number one when I applied] and MIT (total surprise) now.
