Stanford Skiing

I've checked Stanford academics and people's overall opinion or experience, which looks excellent. Now I'm curious about the skiing.
I know it's in Palo Alto, but how good are the skiing opportunities? (Lake Tahoe?)
Is there decent backcountry skiing?
How good is the ski club?
Are there lots of skiers/boarders who attend and go ride?
Is skiing possible during school due to the workload?
How expensive is it?

I know academics come first.

If skiing is your priority, there are many better choices than Stanford.
Lake Tahoe ski resorts (Northstar, Squaw, Heavenly, Kirkwood) are a four hour drive from Stanford, and that drive is even longer on Friday nights heading up the mountain or Sunday nights heading back down.

There is at least one dorm trip per year scheduled that is very affordable. I am pretty sure that additional discounted trips can be arranged if you go as a group.

Skiing isn't a top priority, education is.
I'm just curious about the skiing.
